Vestry Meeting Minutes for March
St. James’ Episcopal Church

(Preliminary -- to be approved at April meeting)

March 18, 2008, 4:30 pm

Present: Sr. Warden David Vanselow, Suzanne Tourtelot, Kay Wayman, the Rev. Edie Bird, Clerk Susan Walter, and guest, Caren Holliday

Because there was no quorum, an official meeting could not be held; however there was discussion on several topics.

Approval of February minutes is deferred until the next meeting due to no quorum.

Approval of treasurer’s reports will be requested by email in order to get the reports to the Diocese by their deadline of the 20th of each month.

Old Business:
1. An email vote will be requested concerning the request for outreach funds for the Dick Johnston Summer Camp. The amount requested by Laura Shoffner at last December’s meeting was $1000 and deferred until this year.  There is currently $3095 in the Outreach fund.

 2. Rev. Bird announced that the dedicated electrical circuit for the new organ is in place and Josh Peden is hard at work on meeting the goal of having a finished, working, playable organ by Easter.
New Business:
1. Poinsettia Campaign – Caren Holliday gave a recap of the last 10 years as Chair of the Poinsettia Campaign and requested permission to hand over this fundraiser to Habitat for Humanity.  Those present were in agreement that this seemed the right thing to do.  Habitat volunteered during the 2007 Poinsettia Drive, is familiar with how the program is run, and, they are looking for an annual fundraiser.

2. St. James’ representative for West Carroll County Ministerial Association – Caren requested a replacement to represent St. James’ in this group.  Edie explained this falls under a clergy matter rather than a vestry matter and the clergy will handle Caren’s request.

3. June 8 Concert – Edie reported that there will be a concert on Sunday, June 8, at 7:00 pm at St. James’ by Dan Agajanian and Denis Grady.  This event provides a way to bring together people from St. James’, families, and others in the community.  The musicians advertise that this will be “an evening of bluegrass, gospel & comedy that will lift your soul!”  There is no cost, but a freewill offering will be taken.

4. Payment for the dedicated circuit for the organ – Those present were in agreement with our treasurer who recommended we pay for this circuit from the CD funds portion of the designated funds account.

5. Lawn care for 2008 – McConaughy Lawncare requested our continued business for 2008.  Those present agreed to continue with this company.  The rate will be $29 plus tax per visit.
The next Vestry meeting will be Wednesday, April 9, at 4:30 pm.

The meeting was adjourned at 5:30 pm.
