Meeting Minutes for July
St. James' Episcopal Church
(Preliminary -- to be approved at August meeting)
Monday,
July 19, 2010, 4:30 PM
Present:
Sr. Warden, Karen Pryor; Jr. Warden, Larry Johnson; Vestry Members:
Kath Cantele, Al Lacock, Larry Shoffner, and Mary Springer; Treasurer:
Jerry Wayman; Clerk: Susan Walter; and Priests: Ben Helmer and Betsy
Porter.
Father
Ben opened the meeting with prayer, led in reading from the BCP, and
recitation of the Lord's Prayer.
Karen
Pryor opened the meeting at 4:30 PM.
Acceptance
of June minutes: Larry Shoffner moved that the June minutes be
accepted. Larry Johnson seconded and all voted aye.
Treasurer's
Reports:
- Jerry
Wayman presented the June financial reports. Mary moved to accept
the reports, Al seconded and all voted aye.
- Jerry
also noted that the interest rate on the Memorial Fund and
Designated Fund has dropped to .1%. He was asked to look into a
checking account Cornerstone offers with a 4.51% interest rate. (He
checked on July 20 and discovered that
Churches
and businesses are not
eligible
for these accounts.)
Junior
Warden Report
Ants
are invading the kitchen. Larry will take care of the problem.
Old
Business:
2010 Budget
- The
financials show that the operating account is up $6,506 after the
first 6 months of the year. Discussion followed concerning items
that were highlighted on the budget as items at risk of being
funded. The group felt no action was needed at this time. It was
acknowledged that since the situation could change at any time, we
may need to make adjustments in the future.
- Funding
for Camp Mitchell – As part of the Diocesan request to “Share
our Bounty” each year, Larry Johnson moved we fund Camp Mitchell
$500 from the Mission Opportunity Fund subaccount of the Designated
Funds. Al Seconded and all voted aye.
- Search
for Vestry Member to fill Heather Quinney’s term – Karen is
using the recent survey to talk to interested members about the
position.
New
Business:
- Discussion
and approval of Columbarium documents – These documents were sent
back to committee for further review, to correct errors, and to add
more regulations.
Various
items and actions since the June meeting:
- Columbarium
received and installed. Huge thanks to Al. Freight bill was $290.11.
- St.
James’ House roof was repaired and the gutter helmet installed.
- Stair
Chair is broken. Presidential Conversions made service call 7/13 and
determined the circuit board blew. They ordered the board and will
install when it arrives.
- St.
James’ picnic scheduled for Sunday, September 19 at the Mumaughs
with a rain date of September 26.
- Green
chasuble and stole were ordered June 30 with a final price of
$647.45.
- Annual
fire extinguisher maintenance done July 8.
- Kath
Cantele stenciled the organ and is working on the finishing touches.

With
no further business, Betsy offered prayer and Karen adjourned the
meeting at 5:30 PM. The group then went upstairs to admire the
stenciling and trim work on the organ.
