Meeting Minutes for April
St. James’ Episcopal Church
(Preliminary - to be approved at May meeting)
Wednesday, April 21, 2010, 4:30 PM
Present: Sr. Warden, Karen Pryor; Jr. Warden, Larry Johnson; Vestry
Members Carol Belt, Kath Cantele, Heather Quinney, Larry Shoffner, and
Mary Springer; Treasurer Jerry Wayman, Clerk Susan Walter, and Priest
Ben Helmer.
Father Ben opened the meeting with prayer for the Parish. Karen Pryor called the meeting to order at 4:31 PM
Acceptance of minutes: Carol Belt moved to accept the March minutes. Larry Johnson seconded and all voted aye.
Treasurer's Reports: Jerry Wayman presented the treasurer’s
reports. Larry Shoffner moved to accept the reports, Carol
seconded and all voted aye.
1.New Counting procedures: Because of
mistakes in counting the offering and lack of a quiet place to count,
Jerry announced a new and simpler procedure and counter form. The
new procedure still requires counters to count and deposit the cash but
no longer must they total the check amount. Now, they simply
endorse and count the number of checks. The offering is then
passed on to the office administrator who totals, records, and deposits
the checks.
2.CD Renewal: Our CD with a current value of $80,425
renews May 13. Larry Johnson moved we renew the CD at Cornerstone
Bank. Mary Springer seconded and all vote aye.
Old Business:
1.Parking Lot, Saturday, May 1: Chair
Heather Quinney reported that all positions are filled and the group is
ready for the event with signs and change and walkie talkies.
2.Review of Yes/No questions developed by Kay
Wayman to determine congregational interest in participating in various
activities at St. James’: The questionnaire will be tested at the
Newcomers’ Night, April 25.
3.Feed My Sheep Campaign: Vestry members were reminded to set the example and bring a can of food for Flint Street to breakfast.
New Business:
1.Appointment of a Music Ministry Support Team:
Ben is giving thought to setting up a team to help determine the
direction of St. James’ music. He asked Vestry members to email
him names to consider for participation on the team. This team
will be accountable to Ben and ultimately to the Vestry.
2.Hospitality in a Time of Growth (joint issue with ECW): Ben will discuss how to provide for hosting various functions at the next ECW meeting, Monday, May 3.
3.Seniors Recognition and Carroll Heath retirement: Ben
established Sunday, May 30 as Senior (those over 75) Recognition Day
with Ed Tolle as preacher, a recognition cake after church, and flowers
for those recognized. Karen Pryor will Emcee the event and Father
John will bless the stair chair.
4.Donating old organ blower and bellows to Galena, KS church:
Mary moved we donate these items, Carol seconded and all voted
aye. Keith from Mid West organ will pick them on Thursday, April
22 and deliver them.
5.With joy and excitement about her pending move to Tucson, Heather Quinney announced her resignation
from the vestry effective May 31. With sadness for losing her but
with happiness and well wishes for her new situation, Senior Warden
Karen will work with Heather and Ben to find a person to fill her
unexpired term.
6.Kath Cantele shared designs she developed to stencil the organ console rather than stain it. The consensus was for her to proceed.

Tuesday – Friday, April 27-30, 8-5 PM – Training in the Undercroft for Census Employees

Saturday, May 22, 10-3, Spring Garden Tour, Refreshments at St. James’
Tuesday, May 25 – Ben’s surgery
Sunday, May 30 – Senior Recognition Day
Meeting dates for May & June
No meeting scheduled in May; June meeting is Tuesday, June 15, at 4:30 PM
With no further business, Ben closed the meeting with prayer and Karen adjourned the meeting at 5:50 PM.
