St. James’ Episcopal Church

Sunday, January 24, 2010

9:00 AM – The Holy Eucharist

Approximately 40 people attended the annual meeting held after church.

The Rev. Ben Helmer opened the meeting with prayer and called the meeting to order at 10:40 AM.  He appointed Susan Walter as clerk.

Annual Reports
Larry Shoffner moved the annual reports be accepted by title. Carol Belt seconded and all voted aye. Nigel thanked people for helping in the annual garden cleanup. Carol Belt gave kudos for the successful prayer shawl ministry.
2010 Budget
Treasurer Jerry Wayman presented the Budget for 2010 noting the $9,400 deficit and items in the budget that are at risk of being funded.  A motion to accept the budget was made and seconded; all voted aye.  13th month pledge - As a concrete way to raise more money, Ben asked people to consider pledging a 13th month. If all our pledging units did this, we’d raise an additional $7,259 for our deficit budget.
Columbarium
Al Lacock, chairman of the columbarium committee, explained the concept and showed the location in the baptismal area of a potential columbarium. The goal at the meeting was to gauge interest in the project. Al said each niche would be sold for $400 and each plaque for disposition of ashes in the garden would be sold for $100. Only members will be able to purchase niches with exceptions when approved by the committee.
Stair Chair
Ben has gathered information on installing a Stair Chair for the stairs from the sanctuary to the undercroft. He noted the cost would be about $3200 and that we have received one substantial donation.
Elections for Vestry
The current Vestry members recommend raising the number of vestry members from 7 to 8. A motion was made and approved with one voting no.  Ben presented the slate of nominees – Carol Belt, Kath Cantele, Heather Quinney, and Karen Pryor.  There were no nominations from the floor and the ballot was unanimously approved.  Karen Pryor was appointed Sr. Warden; Larry Johnson, Jerry Wayman, and Susan Walter will continue in their positions as Jr. Warden, Treasurer, and Clerk.
Recognition
Ben thanked and recognized outgoing Sr. Warden Dave Vanselow and Vestry members Kay Wayman and Suzanne Tourtelot for the good and hard work they have accomplished.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:25 AM and was followed by a potluck luncheon in the undercroft.

Submitted by Susan Walter, Clerk
